Forgiving those who hurt you

Monday February 27 2012

Romans 12:19 “Dear Friends, never avenge yourselves.  Leave that to God.  For it is written, “I will take vengeance; I will repay those who deserve it,” says the Lord.”

When others hurt us, it is our human nature to “pay back” and we justify it by telling ourselves we feel better because we saw justice done! That is against God’s word. He says we should treat our enemies with love! Wow!

We hear of horrendous crimes being committed daily and the victims are angry and cry for justice to be administered and while we know it is imperative to uphold the law of the land and punish these criminals, there seems to be a great cry for “vengeance”. Even though, we believe in justice, we also need to find it in our hearts to forgive. This is not always possible on our own but with God, all things are possible, even to forgive our enemies.

Prayer for today: Thank you, Lord, for this day.  Thank you for your inspired Word. Thank you that you are a God of justice as well as a God of love and in time our enemies will receive justice without our “help” or “hindrance”.  Lord, my desire is to let you control every situation in my life and I pray that you will grant me the wisdom to wait for your guidance in everything. In Jesus name, Amen.
