Why should you read the Bible?

Thursday Sep. 6 2012:

Deuteronomy 8:3.   “...............real life comes by feeding on every word of the Lord.”

One translation of the word “feed” is “to devour”.  How often have we “devoured” the word of God or the Bible?

When my brother was studying to obtain his degree in theology, one of his many tasks was to write a summary of every chapter in the entire Bible.  When I have a question that I cannot find the answer to, pertaining to scripture, I ask him.  I am always amazed by his knowledge of biblical content.  I am sure his study did not end with that assignment but that is how it began; which in turn spurned his interest and thirst for more knowledge, motivating him to pursue God’s Word further.  As he studied, God opened new revelations and blessed him by enabling him to a further and deeper understanding of spiritual truths.

To delve into God’s Word also reinforces our relationship with Christ thereby allowing us to experience “real” life!  To feed on the Word of God enables us to fully abide, to become all that God intended us to be, not on our own strength but by his power that brings us to the peace that leads to “real life”!

Prayer for today:  Heavenly Father, I long for a deep thirst for your Word.  Give me an unquenchable thirst that motivates me to study and search. Your Word has the answers to all of life’s difficult questions and the real meaning of life. Thank you, Lord, for giving us your Word.  Help me to be a child of God who knows Christ on a personal basis and understands “real life”.  In Jesus name, Amen.
